Wednesday, January 7, 2008 – Where Is Your Trust?

9:49 am Blog

Don’t get me wrong.  I am not against savings plans, or retirement funds, or even wise investing.  The Bible teaches that the good steward invested his master’s money and it increased.  I am talking about where our trust is.

(The information on this web site, NOW MORE THAN EVER, will be of great help for those who want to live a dynamic life and get real results. It is for those who want to stop living with worries and fears and instead live life to its fullest!

Where Is Your Trust?

With so much bad news about the economy, I am doing a three part series about money.  Yesterday I talked about how money in and of itself is not evil.  The Bible tells us to love and trust God.  It tells us to not love or trust in money.  It also tells us that God will supply all that we need, in abundance.

Today I want to talk about how to love and trust God without loving and trusting in money.  And then tomorrow I will talk about “rich people.”

What is trust?  It is to be persuaded.  We are persuaded by words.

How many people have put their trust in their retirement plan only to see it evaporate?  Their trust was in the amount that they thought was there.  They had confidence and trust that is would continue to grow.  They were persuaded that their “plan” was going to supply them through their sunset years.

Don’t get me wrong.  I am not against savings plans, or retirement funds, or even wise investing.  The Bible teaches that the good steward invested his master’s money and it increased.  I am talking about where our trust is.

We can, and we should make wise decisions.  We make decisions from words that we hear.  We are persuaded by words.  But our complete trust ought to be in the One Who supplies, and that is God.

We must do whatever it takes to build our confidence and trust in God that He will do as He has promised, and that is to supply abundantly.  But far too many people do not take the time to hear His words.  They are instead persuaded by other words.

When one takes the time to read the records in the Scriptures of how He has supplied in the past, and read His many promises to continue to supply, then one can start building a trust and confidence that He will supply.

Many people are familiar with the record in the Bible where Jesus told a young man to go sell all his possession and come and follow.  The passage has been literally “butchered” by those trying to promote their own agenda.

Jesus Christ did not go around telling everyone who had a great abundance to get rid of it and be poor.  But with this man came to Jesus first.  Jesus perceived that his trust was in his possessions, in what he had accumulated.  The issue in the passage is one of trust.

The man trusted in his possessions because he believed that his possessions would take care of him.  Jesus never said that it was wrong for him to have them.  But the point, which so many miss, is to honestly look and see where your trust is.

I’ll talk more about this passage tomorrow.

Regardless of whether you have a big fat savings account or not, where is your trust?  And if your savings plan is ruined does that mean that you are ruined?  If you loose your job, does that mean that you are ruined?  Not if your trust is in the Supplier, because none of those things put God out of business?

And, as I wrote a number of weeks ago, what a great reminder we have on all US currency: In God We Trust!  Every time we use money to make any kind of purchase, even a snack machine, we can pause for a moment and remember those words.

We really can build and develop a great trust in God so that no matter what happens, we will not only have confidence that he will supply all that we need, but that we will indeed receive all that we need!

Tomorrow, “What About Rich People?”

Choose to have a great day!
