Religious And Spiritual?

A repairman was at our home last week, and he asked me if I was religious and spiritual.  Now that’s quite a question.

This came about because he was talking to me about “the end times.” I commented to him on how I believed that Christ is coming back, and that all the born again ones will be gathered together to meet him in the air.

But, in answer to his question of whether I was religious and spiritual, I could not just give him a simple, “yes,” or “no.”

Being religious means a lot of things to a lot of people.  Personally, I do not believe that Christianity is a religion.  I think there is a lot of religion in Christianity.  Religion is something man makes, and it is usually full of regulations on how to be right in God’s eyes. I believe that real Christianity is the way of the Father with His children.

If you think about it, the greatest opposition that Jesus Christ faced while here on earth was from the “religious” leaders.  They had their nice little neat system and Jesus was, in their eyes, interfering. And if he was indeed the Messiah, then they would be out of a job.  So they opposed him at every turn and instigated his arrest and his murder.

The Father and His family?  Yes.  Accepting all that God has done for us because of the accomplished work of Christ?  Yes.  Religion?  No.

And when it comes to being spiritual, that term has a lot of different meanings to a lot of different people too.  I briefly explained to the repairman about religion and Christianity, but he had to go, so there we had no discussion about being spiritual.

There is the natural realm and there is the spiritual realm.  Since God is Spirit, and I believe that holy men of God wrote the Bible, being moved by the Holy Spirit, then the best place I know to get information and understanding about spiritual matters is in the Scriptures.
