The Bible talks about Daniel praying three times a day.  Have you ever considered the situation he was dealing with and the stress he could have allowed to control his life?

Prayer Under Stress

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

With many things going on in country today there is a lot more stress, especially in the workplace.  There are articles and books, and, even courses on dealing with stress.  I am currently making a presentation available to companies on, “Reducing Stress At Work”© where I cover some keys to reducing stress.

Since my audience for that presentation is a mixed bag, I don’t really have an opportunity to talk too much about praying to reduce stress.  But praying can definitely be a great help in reducing stress.

There are some who while under stress pray prayers of desperation: “Oh God, you gotta help me! Please do something!”   But, I am not talking about a desperate prayer.  I am talking about taking a prayer break to talk things over with God.

The Bible talks about Daniel praying three times a day.  Have you ever considered the situation he was dealing with and the stress he could have allowed to control his life?

He was a very high ranking government official, and he was a foreigner.  He was from Judah, living in Babylon, and was appointed a high position in the government.  You can read how the natives of the land hated him.

Add to that he was working for an unbelieving pagan dictator.  In that situation it was normal if the dictator did not like what you were doing, he could simply have you executed.

Yet, for many, many years, and under different governments, he managed to keep his job.  One of the things that Daniel did was to pray to God three times a day, even when it was illegal.

Those prayer breaks must have been important to him; a time to take a break from all that was going around him and talk things over with God; a time to remind himself that as he trusted God, God would continue to take care of him. It was a time of asking for God’s help, yes.  But also a time of recommitting his trust and confidence in a God Who does deliver when we trust and believe Him.

So, if you are feeling stressed out, remember to take some prayer breaks.  Cast your cares on Him because He cares for you.  Release and let go of any fear that you have and replace it with confidence in a loving and powerful God.

Choose to have a great day!

Mike
