Is Today Going to be One of Those Days?

When you hear, or say the phrase, “This is going to be one of those days,” what does it communicate to you?  That phrase is most often used when a day starts out with one or more things not going right. Then, as a habit, the phrase comes out, “This is going to be one of those days.”

But the question we have to ask is, “Does anyone really want to have a day where lots of things don’t go right?”  I think most would answer, “Absolutely not!”

The words that we speak, especially to ourselves, trigger emotions, images, and experiences.  That phrase, because it has been used so extensively in a negative light, triggers negative emotion, images and experiences.

The words that we say to ourselves, our self talk, have, and will continue to have, a great impact on our lives. Why?  Because we are the ones who set the rudder for our own course in life; we are the ones who choose to set our sails.  And this all happens in our own brains!

I have never, ever heard someone say, “You know, all day long yesterday I kept thinking that it was going to be “one of those days,” but it actually turned out to be a great day!”  Have you ever heard someone say that? Do you know why?

When you start focusing and expecting negatives, you will receive negatives, because that’s the position of the rudder that you set; that is how you decided to set your own sails.

As he thinks in his heart, so is he!

So, what kind of a day are you expecting? And if something does go wrong, does that really mean that the rest of the day will be filled with things going wrong?  What do you say?
