They Were Offered How Much?
On the one hand you hear dire reports on the news about the economy; lots of doom and gloom. Then on the other hand you hear reports of contracts being offered to professional football and baseball players. Don’t let either of the reports move you one way or the other.
I heard yesterday of one quarterback being offered 10 million dollars a year for two years. They reported the agent is waiting because they want 12 million a year instead. I also heard of a baseball player offered a two year deal worth 45 million dollars – 25 the first year and 20 the second year.
I don’t let stories like that bother me. It shows me two things: One, there are people with money willing to spend it; and secondly, we still live in a country where your hard work and effort increases your worth and value in the market place.
I just hope it doesn’t drive the price of a hot dog at the game up from $4.50 to $8.50!
Speaking of value and worth from one’s own labor, I ran into the is quote made by Ronald Reagan to the Broan Manufacturing Company employees in Hartford, Wisconsin, July 27, 1987.
“One of the most dangerous inclinations of human nature, Thomas Jefferson once said, is appropriating wealth produced by the labors of others rather than producing it with one’s own labor. He said government was the usual vehicle for this abuse. And as he put it: The stronger the government, the weaker the producer. And he added: The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground.”
There’s some food for thought for the weekend!
Work hard at whatever job you do, regardless of your salary. Develop a good solid work ethic. That is something that you take it with you wherever you go. It is also something that is attractive and marketable.
Continue to trust God to promote you in all your endeavors. He is truly the best agent you could ever have.
Have a great weekend!
Mike
